Sunday was the first day our little doctors went off to their conference with their buddies and Dustin had friends in town so I was left to my own devices. It was so nice!
But before I begin there are a few iPhone pictures I wanted to share from our first evening on Coronado.
Our view from our room.
Look how the sand sparkles. Chuck and I were convinced that they were flecks of gold.
SO nice to feel the ocean on my feet.
Yum!
After a nice long time at Starbucks and walking in downtown Coronado I headed up to Point Loma. It was the first place that European settlers reached, where "California began." There's a couple military posts there and a large national cemetery as well as civilian areas with a university and commercial and residential areas.
This was the old lighthouse.
A view from the point.
Then they had areas where you could hike down and there were tide pools. There wasn't much to see but lots of big waves.
And a visitor.
Monday Dustin and I took an Old Trolley tour (they have them in a lot of major cities). They are narrated tours that span the city so you learn a lot and you can get on and off and much as you like. The plan was for the doctors to stay at their conference most of the day.
Our first stop was Balboa Park, the area where the zoo was. This stop was where most of the museums were.
This is the Museum of Man.
Lots of fun, Spanish-style buildings.
This was the only museum we went into, the Museum of Natural History.
And they had this awesome Pirate exhibition put on by National Geographic. We couldn't take any pictures inside the exhibit because it was all owned by NatGeo so we took this picture.
This was some big Fig tree.
This was Old Town. We would have gotten off here but the kids called and said they were ready to be picked up!! It was only noon! There went our plans. So we stayed on the Trolley from here to Coronado, an hour long trip. And at this point my dad and sister called asking how to get somewhere in the city. So not only was I stressed out about getting back to Chuck and Kendra in a timely fashion, but I'm worried about two adults who don't know where they're going in Seattle with my children in my SUV. And then this old lady on the trolley gave me tongue lashing for talking during the narration. I just about ripped out her hair. Yes, HER hair.
Downtown was beautiful.
We drove through the Gaslamp District where...you guess it...(way back when) it was lit by gaslamps.
Petco Park, where the Padres play.
While we were going over the bridge to Coronado there was a Navy ship headed out to sea.
To be continued!
