So, on our way to Moab to see Arches we took a small detour. We highly weight this choice because we had less than a quarter of a tank of gas. We didn't know how far the jaunt would be (to the end of the road and back and then to Moab) as far as time. We could estimate how much gas we had but 20 miles times two and then another 20 or so miles to Moab, we just weren't sure. But we did it anyway.
Holy cow.
We were so glad we did. It was Canyonlands National Park. It was absolutely fantabulous. I don't think I've ever even seen pictures of Canyonlands, let alone heard of it. There was literally no one else there (at least the little turn off that we went to, the actual visitor site was farther down the road). Wow. I'll let you take it in. And as a little treat, I included some HDR images that I put together. You'll be able to see some of the Grand Canyon tomorrow.
How amazing is this????? It's like the hidden Grand Canyon!
If you can't tell, this is a sheer cliff on either side of this jut out. And I think this was where there was nothing underneath. This whole area made Chuck very nervous, especially when the kids got close to the bottom of the fence (as you can see, there are large gaps between the bottom of the fence and the rock).
These are my two tries at HDR images. They are three images merged together.
Just look at how many canyons there are. It was absolutely breathtaking.
