Our third and last day in the city

Alrighty, the plan for this day was to head straight to the bridge to walk across and then make our way to a couple other things like the Mrs. Doubtfire house and Lombard Street and head back to Davis. However, how exactly do you get to the bridge? We knew we didn't want to drive across, we wanted to walk. So where do you park? How do you walk there? We winged it...

On the way we passed the local Mini dealer

And then city hall

After driving around a bit and having GREAT luck finding a free parking spot, we parked and walked to the bridge. This is the toll booth (the only one) on the south side of the bridge.

Note that the previous pics were completely clear on the SAME DAY. This was as good as it got on our walk.

Getting a bit worse, but I'm determined to have a nice time and enjoy our walk. I don't need to necessarily narrate a lot of these pics.

You can hardly tell, but these are dolphins.

Hangin' out

There were a few of these. When we first started walking there were high fences but most of the bridge you could totally jump off. I guess the fences were to keep the pansies that don't want to fall as far from jumping. In the middle where there's no fences would take some more guts and you'd have to really mean it.

From what I've read, they have a cable restoration project going on.

The cables vibrated with all the pedestrians and cars.

When they say the bridge is a suspension bridge, this is actually the cables (see a later picture).

Someone was tired! All three of them slept 2/3 of the time even with it being so windy and cold, and it was lunch time but never knew it!

The is the north side. Sausalito.

It was nice on this side!

We didn't take many pics on the way back, we wanted to see how long it took to walk without stopping. It's about 25 minutes. It's 1.7 miles each way, and there are 27,572 tiny cables in each of the two main cables. AMAZING! This is a pic of the cable I was talking about, it shows all the cables. There are 61 tiny cables in each bundle.

There used to be a military installation here and they use old housing as regular housing now. We only knew this because it looks exactly like old housing on other bases/posts. And they have reallocated other buildings for other things like a gymnastics gymnasium and rock climbing walls and such along the shore. I thought it was cool that they didn't just go abandoned like they do a lot of times.

THIS is the Mrs. Doubtfire house. Now, if you're like we were, it just doesn't look the same, we are pretty sure this house has been painted and I don't remember it being on the corner, but I was obviously wrong. They way we knew it was this house is because the actual address was in my tourist book. I'll have to watch the movie again.

Just thought it was a cool view.

Lombard St. People actually LIVE on this street, you'll see their cars parked and their driveways. Talk about insanity all the time!

This is for Dad, he'd love this restaurant!

In the MIDDLE of the CITY?!?! Could you imagine, "Mommy, why is there a lady in a funny dress on that sign?" Apparently there's a couple of these in Seattle just out in the open like this. Never noticed them, they were everywhere in San Fran!!

That's all of the city. I have enough for one more blog entry of the last few days of our trip. Stay tuned for a few volcanoes, bubbling mud pits, a beautiful lake (deepest in the world) and a forest fire!

I finally got caught up on your blog. I started a temp job on Monday and don't get as much computer time and I used to. I really enjoyed all the pictures and descriptions.

Ok, first off, I LOVED LOVED LOVED your artsy pics of the bridge! I like that you're incorporating artsy 'photographer' showing pics in addition to pics that parents have to have!! Those artsy pics of the bridge though are totally Golden Gate Bridge 2010 calendar worthy though! Amazing! Also, I think that house was on a corner in the movie though cuz I remember him coming to that stop sign right away at the end of the movie. I also love the pic of the triangle (whatever you called it) building though... I always have loved that building when I see shots of San Fran, just never knew what it was called obviously!!! Great pics though! It looks like you guys had so much fun though! I'm so jealous! That pic of Aaron sleeping in his stroller is so stinkin cute though!!!!

Thanks guys!! Dana, since it was so foggy, some of those pics just looked better in b&w, so that's what I did. I also have them saved in color.
