Back in February the kids had a couple days off school for mid-winter break. By the way, WHAT is that?! Just stinking get school done and over with? What parent likes two random days off school to throw their kids off their schedule and out of whack?!
Anyway, rant over.
Where were we to go so last minute? We should really keep a list of places that aren't too far away so if we get a weekend or a couple random days, we know where to go. We decided to go up north to Port Angeles and maybe farther west from there. We didn't end up going too much farther past Port Angeles because it's really quite far and Chuck had to be on call starting that Tuesday evening (so Monday afternoon through Tuesday late afternoon).
Our first stop was the Dungeness Spit, a 5 mile spit that juts out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and ends with a lighthouse.
Mt. Baker in the background. The lighthouse doesn't seem like 5 miles away but it is. We've never even gotten close because of the dogs (not allowed) or the kids (walking 10 miles on a beach?).
And we found a little shelter someone had built.
This is where a dam used to be near where we camped. They took it out to conserve the salmon runs.
After we camped we went to Lake Crescent. President Roosevelt used to come here!

Wow, so beautiful - the location and the family! One day before you know it you'll be able to hike to the mountain. It goes so fast! I can't believe Haddie just turned seven. It doesn't feel possible. And to think that in another 7 years she'll be 14. Eeks!
I especially love the last photo with the kids together. So sweet!
