Snowshoeing on Mt. Rainier

The Saturday before we went home the second time I decided to take Aaron on a snowshoe trip. Chuck was going to work (and he had no problem missing this little hike, he's not into snowshoeing). But I decided, hey, why not. Jess and Karie inherited a baby backpack and I'd like to try it out. This is some before pictures:

Keep in mind, the two in the back with the grey jacket and pink hat are from the south. They've never seen this much snow, EVER!

However, unlike last time:

I had a choice whether to carry him or not. I fully intended on carrying hime the whole way. However, that did not end up happening.

But this is why; see that little hill off in front of us? You can see a little trail that leads up the hill to a glacier and a great view of Rainier. Jess said we should take it. So we did.:

And this is what it looked like while we were climbing this little hill:

Yeah! Derek and Alissa made it!!

Now right about here, there was a little, shall we call it, trail, leading down the hill. You can see it in this picture:

When you actutally get up to where this "trail" leads down the hill, it actually looks like someone fell down the hill!! You can see where I've marked it and circled the area where I thought the person stopped tumbling. When I was in the middle of the hill and then I saw this, I was so glad I didn't have Aaron on my back. I thought I was going to fall backwards just myself, I couldn't imagine what it would be like with him on me too!

But when we got to the top, this is what we saw:

After resting for a while, we made our way back down to Paradise (the parking lot/visitor center), ate lunch and then headed back out for some sledding fun!

The most entertaining bit was when three of the guys went down the hill on each other and crashed. Here's the highlight:

That looks like so much fun. I would have been worried about falling backwards while I was carrying him too! The senery is gorgeous I'm hoping next year we can find a time to come visit you guys. See you in a couple weeks. Jess
